The ultra-conservative Heartland Institute is kicking off their climate change Denial-a-Palooza gathering in Germany today. DeSmog has managed to get top billing on a major German website with an article describing the 50 shades of crazy we have witnessed over the years from Heartland.
The website Klimaretter.info is running a German translated version of this article I wrote earlier in the week: Denial-a-Palooza: Does German Media Really Believe There is No Link Between Cigarettes and Lung Cancer?

The Heartland Institute is taking their climate denial message overseas likely because they have been so discredited here in North America. But thanks to our friends and Klimaretter, Heartland's reputation will precede them!
Democracy is utterly dependent upon an electorate that is accurately informed. In promoting climate change denial (and often denying their responsibility for doing so) industry has done more than endanger the environment. It has undermined democracy.
There is a vast difference between putting forth a point of view, honestly held, and intentionally sowing the seeds of confusion. Free speech does not include the right to deceive. Deception is not a point of view. And the right to disagree does not include a right to intentionally subvert the public awareness.
