Singer's Deniers Misrepresenting New Climatology Journal Article

With characteristic shamelessness, the mendacious Dr. S. Fred Singer and two of his three co-authors are flagrantly misrepresenting a new article that they have published in the International Journal of Climatology.

The article, A Comparison of Tropical Temperature Trends with Model Predictions, appears to identify an interesting flaw in climate modelling result. But it doesn't begin to justify the misleading public relations campaign that Singer has now launched on the strength of this publication.

Fred Singer/Winnipeg Free Press: Two "Institutions" in Decline

Denier-for-hire Fred Singer has enriched himself defending everything from CFCs to second-hand smoke, parlaying his fame as a promising young scientist in the 1950s and '60s to more recent infamy as an all-purpose front man for environmentally suspect industries. Alas, it appears that he has become so well-known in the U.S. that his bursts of disinformation no longer attract attention from major media outlets south of the border.

Lucky for Fred that faltering organs like the Winnipeg Free Press either don't check people's credentials or don't mind buying opinion pieces from “scientists” whose opinions have been paid for, already.

John Locke Foundation: Echoes of Climate Change Denial

EnvironmentNC, the John Locke Foundation's environmental front group, has discovered another sterling source for discredited science: it's called ICECAP, a group that put its “reputation” on the line yesterday by guessing that 2007 may not rank as the warmest year on record in the Northern Hemisphere.

One might reasonably ask: so what? The issue of our times is global warming, not hemispheric anomalies. Yet, the agenda-driven ICECAP gets all breathless because this year's abnormality seems to be roughly in keeping with the trend.

"ZERO Oil Money" Behind Singer/Avery Denier Text: Funding Came From Natural Gas

The climate change denial book of the year, Unstoppable Global Warming: Every 1,500 Years, has attracted a fair amount of abuse (see this great layman's review in the Daily Harold; or this scientific parsing from RealClimate.Org), but one of the authors' sons has posted a legitimate objection to the DeSmogBlog's early response that the book was the work of paid oil industry apologists.

Shoot the Messenger: Morano Ignores the Science; Attacks the Reporter

Hot air campaigner and Republican attack dog Marc Morano is once again using the Minority Page on the website of the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and the Environment to bash media that don't provide his kind of “balance” in climate change reporting.

Morano's target this time is the Associated Press Science writer Seth Borenstein, who reported on Monday that most (reputable) scientists fear that rising sea levels will swamp important American historical sites during the current century.

Morano doesn't bother to address the science OR the credentials of the experts whose work Borenstein quotes. Rather, the man known as Oklahoma Senator Jim Inhofe's “pet weasel” flails at the AP reporter because Borenstein “only quotes six scientists in the article, of which only one can be labeled a climate skeptic.”

Not even the White House buys Avery and Singer's 'research' anymore

Here's a headline from the UK's Telegraph that we haven't seen in quite a while: 'Global Warming is Good and Not our Fault.'

I quite honestly thought we were past this, but it seems Denis Avery and Fred Singer can still eke out a headline once in a while.

Avery and Singer are grandfathers of the climate denial industry and their antiquated 'research' spun in the name of science, is a reflection of just how long in the tooth they have become when it comes to the issue of climate change.

Medieval Paintings Explode Global Warming Myth!

Climate science - and perhaps the definition of science itself - is in for an update, thanks to the tireless work of tobacco and oil industry apologist, Dr. S. Fred Singer.

Singer and his current writing buddy, Hudson Institute Senior Fellow Dennis Avery, have discovered an artful argument to prove that we don't have to worry about climate change. Specifically, they found thousands of museum paintings that portrayed sunnier skies during the Medieval Warming and more cloudiness during the Little Ice Age.”

15-year old the latest wall in denier's echo-chamber

Google the name “Kristen Byrnes” and you'll see a lot of buzz over her recent musings about Al Gore and James Hansen.

Headlines like “15-year-old outsmarts NASA's global warming alarmist,” and, “Teenager takes on Global Warming Scientist” are popping up all over the smogosphere. The attention seems somewhat confounding, given that this 15 year-olds work isn't uncovering any earth-shattering news or data, or anything that hasn't been bounced around the global warming denier myth chamber a thousand times already.

Check out her website here.

We are all asteroid deniers

I have had this old article by global warming denier Fred Singer in my inbox for quite some time now. It appeared in the April 22, 1996 edition of the Washington Times.

It seems that if Singer had his way, we would have dropped all this climate change and ozone depletion nonsense a long time ago and got onto more important issues… like planetary defense systems against giant comets and asteroids.

Deniers evolution from ozone to global warming

Here are recent statements by vocal media impressarios and think tanks who spend their time, not in a laboratory, but in the popular media trying to convince the public that global warming is either not happening, or is not caused by our continued consumption of fossil fuels (oil, coal, gas etc).

Below each one, I have also provided an historical quote on what they had to say about the effects of CFC's on the hole in the o-zone layer. Notice any similarities?
